"The Art of the Bump" with Fred Redekop - Seattle P.T.G. Convention

Fred Redekop of the Seattle chapter presented a double period class of his all-day service routine. It was a thorough walk through of his grand piano service sequence.

The title of his class had to do with his idea of the piano having 3 "keyboards" as he called them. The first being the actual keyboard, the second being the moment of let-off, and the third is the key end contacting the damper lever. The eveness of these three "keyboards" was at the heart of his class.

"The Art of the Bump" basically comes down to a  perfect key level (keyboard #1), close let-off that's even from key to key (keyboard #2), and a damper lift that's timed properly in relation to let-off and is also even from key to key (keyboard #3).

Fred's class did assume that you could already perform a good regulation, but by emphasizing the idea of the 3 "keyboards", Fred was able to zero in on the most important aspects of an even feel.

Well done Fred.
