Someone at Baldwin didn't get the memo...

Tuning "Pepto" at Setai Recording Studio on South Beach.

I keep running into these Baldwin pianos that have the craziest finishes. This one is on loan at Setai Recording Studio. I've named him "Pepto". While Baldwins are good pianos and hold their tune well, they're really hard tune (like all Baldwins I guess). This one has a buzzing damper wire in the bass. Usually you have to over bend the damper wire to go around the strings.Recently Paul Bruno, head technician at the University of Miami showed me how the Hamburg Steinway model D he's rebuilding has damper wires that were filed instead of being overly bent. More on that when I get some photos. For now i'll try over bending it first, but new techniques are always good to know.Got a good story?... Send it in.
