Do you hear that buzz?

Today I was tuning at WDNA, a local Jazz radio station in Miami. Gibson has been furnishing WNDA with Baldwin pianos since they started doing concerts in the station and I've seen a few come through. Gibson has put some wild finishes on these pianos and we've been giving them nicknames like "Ruby" and "Pepto". Today I work on "Dante".

The pianist was there when I arrived and complained about a buzzing sound coming from several of the notes in the middle and in the treble. I asked him to help me by playing the notes in question to activate the buzz while I searched around the instrument. After a minute I became obvious that the buzz was coming from under the piano at the back end of the keybed where the sound board meets the belly rail. Istuck my hand in the crevice to find that there was left over dried black polyester finish that was touching the soundboard. I was able to pull out quite a few chunks and with a long screw driver I got the bits in the treble that were causing the buzz.

He asked me if i'd ever seen anything like that before.

"Never in my life" was my reply.

If you've got a weird story like this one, send it in!
