Cool Tools

Tools are cool. No doubt about it. There's one tool in particular that I've seen for a while now but was skeptical about. It's called the "Tautline Tool". The Pianotek description reads:

“Clever fixture for setting grand let-off on the bench. Quickly mounts to action bracket screws. Easily adjusted to any height. Works on all grands.”

The Tautline Tool  consists of two posts with feet that are tightened under the rear action stack screws for a particular section. A nylon string is stretched between the posts that you can adjust up or down to simulate the piano string height. Normally you would regulate a few keys as samples then pull the action and set the Tautline string to match your samples. I had a chance to try the Tautline out today and it works pretty well. If you're like me and don't want to bring piano actions home, don't carry a workbench around, and yet need to do grand piano regulation then the Tautline is a really cool tool.

If you have a Tautline or have used one, leave a comment with your opinion.
